I decided to run this race just a few weeks ago. I really don't like 5 or 10k races, I feel like I don't have time to settle in a pace, it's just go.

I rode to the race with Jay and Melissa, we then met up with JB and Scott near the starting line. I did a quick mile warm up with Scott and Melissa, they had ran the course the week before and had told me this was a tough course. I started out running with JB, the course starts out flat, but quickly turns uphill. We kept a nice pace and were quickly passing the people that started out too quickly. After the hill there is a nice stretch of downhill where we were pushing 6:45 minute miles. As we got around the 2.5 mile mark on University Ave. I needed to use the bathroom at which point I told JB to go ahead. I did a quick pit stop at the 711 and was back on the course. I ran some decent splits over the next 1.5 miles and at mile 4 caught up with JB again. We ran the rest of the course together. The last mile was brutal, it was all uphill. Thanks to JB for pushing me through it. Hills are definitely my weakness. As I came to the finish line I was surprised to see my cute little family cheering me on. They had told me they wouldn't be coming. I can't believe the little boys kept it a secret! I finished with a time of exactly 52 minutes, 8:23 AP. I was totally bummed about my time as I had set a goal to be under 50 minutes. After seeing the times I felt a bit better, most everyone was about 2-3 minutes slower than average. This was a really tough course too, with a lot of uphill. I loved the challenge and will be back next year. Congratulations to Melissa for being the 7th woman overall and 2nd in her age group!
