I was talked into trail running by a bunch of running friends. I thought it would be something new and fun. Jason, Paul, Scott, Melissa and I started out early up Diamond Fork Canyon toward the hot pots.  I have to say trail running is much harder than I had anticipated. We got up just over 4 miles and decided to turn around and come back. The way back was much easier and we were pushing some really fast miles, about a half mile before we reached our car I slipped on some rocks and took a nasty fall. I definatley got some true battle wounds. After arriving home things weren't quite right and I went to the doctor to find out I have a concussion from the fall. I think it's safe to say I'm a road runner.:)

Perfect and beautiful morning to be outside 8 miles 8:44 AP. Sorry Scott that you had to put up with us two girls giving you are hard time today, you know we love you. I still felt I had plenty left in me to do a bit of speed work 5.3 miles solo 7:24 AP. I still felt strong and could have gone farther which is a good sign.:)

I wanted to get my long run in early this morning, but since no one was avaliable to run with me I had to resort to the treadmill. Nomally 10 miles on a treadmill seems to last forever, but for whatever reason today flew by. I kept wanting to push the pace faster, but knew I needed to keep it slow since I have speed drills tomorrow. 10.25 nice easy miles 8:06 AP.

Met up with Scott, Melissa and Chase at the track for some speed work. We did a 1 mile warm up, then did 400 meter repeats with equal recovery. We finished with a short cool down. This workout was really hard and tested my speed. I was able to keep my repeats consistant which I was happy with. Thanks Chase for the extra push and for timing the repeats, you are so awesome!

Today was supposed to be a recovery run from yesterday's speed drills. I started out slow thinking my legs would feel heavy, but to my surprise they felt great, other than my left hamstring is a bit tight. Ran 5 miles 7:47 AP. I then went to kickboxing class with Jana, great to take my aggressions out on the punching bag:) Finished up with core and obliques.

I decided to run this race just a few weeks ago. I really don't like 5 or 10k races, I feel like I don't have time to settle in a pace, it's just go.

I rode to the race with Jay and Melissa, we then met up with JB and Scott near the starting line. I did a quick mile warm up with Scott and Melissa, they had ran the course the week before and had told me this was a tough course. I started out running with JB, the course starts out flat, but quickly turns uphill. We kept a nice pace and were quickly passing the people that started out too quickly. After the hill there is a nice stretch of downhill where we were pushing 6:45 minute miles. As we got around the 2.5 mile mark on University Ave. I needed to use the bathroom at which point I told JB to go ahead. I did a quick pit stop at the 711 and was back on the course. I ran some decent splits over the next 1.5 miles and at mile 4 caught up with JB again. We ran the rest of the course together. The last mile was brutal, it was all uphill. Thanks to JB for pushing me through it. Hills are definitely my weakness. As I came to the finish line I was surprised to see my cute little family cheering me on. They had told me they wouldn't be coming. I can't believe the little boys kept it a secret! I finished with a time of exactly 52 minutes, 8:23 AP. I was totally bummed about my time as I had set a goal to be under 50 minutes. After seeing the times I felt a bit better, most everyone was about 2-3 minutes slower than average. This was a really tough course too, with a lot of uphill. I loved the challenge and will be back next year. Congratulations to Melissa for being the 7th woman overall and 2nd in her age group!

Met up with Scott and Melissa and ran the Speedy Spaniard course from finish to start, then start to finish. The first half was tough with a lot of uphill since we were running the course backward. We maintained a pretty good pace with a 8:32 AP. The second half was much easier, but we took it a bit slow as we weren't looking for speed 7:50 AP. It is always so much fun to run with these two, not only do they push me, but they are so funny! My right hip flexor started hurting toward the end of the run. I was then supposed to do a 5k, but it was cancelled due to potential rain, bummer!

Such a fun morning of easy running. Started out with Scott and Melissa for a long run ending in a 5k. These miles were all meant to be easy and they were. I was a bit concerned I would have a hard time running after easy running in Hawaii and taking several days off. I felt good overall. We ran 12.5 miles at an 8:45 AP through Provo and the river trails in the area. Scott did such a great job of mapping out this run, it had the perfect amount of variety. We ended a bit faster than we anticipated though and had to wait for the 5k to start instead of making it one fluid run. I'm so happy to be back running with my buddies, I missed their guts! Once the race started I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn't racing this, just making it part of my long run. I ran 3.2 miles (it was slightly over) at an 8:29 AP. This race was a real tear jerker that I was glad to be apart of. Love these types of races:)

Today was one adventurous run. I decided to do a few slow, short, easy miles. When I left my house it was windy, but decided I was sick of running on the treadmill. I ran to the gym, got a quick drink and headed home which is all uphill and into the wind. I was literally pushed back by the strength of the gusts. I ran 4.5 miles 9.05 AP, horribly slow. I had intended these miles to be slow, but 9 minute miles, come on. The only great thing about this run is I was able to use my new running sunglasses, they are amazing! Yay, today was the day of my favorite half course around. Jason and I loaded the buses and were up at the start line about an hour early. It was fun to chit chat with our friends to pass the time. The race started on time again this year, thank goodness. Jason and I kept a nice strong pace and hit our 5k at 22 minutes and our 10k at 46 minutes. I was feeling really good, but around mile 10 Jason told me that he was tired and to go on without him. I wanted him there for the last few miles when I knew the head games would start. I hated to leave him, but knew if I wanted to be in the elite 100 I had to push on alone. I felt myself starting to slow around mile 11 and knew the head games were setting in. With one mile left to go I started getting leg cramps on my right inner thigh and had to convince myself to keep pushing strong. I rounded the corner to the finish line and heard a woman coming up on me in an all out sprint, I started to sprint and beat her in. I DID IT! I made the Elite 100 women with a time of 1:44:11, 7:57 AP. A woman said to me "Awesome job elite lady!" as she placed the elite medal around my neck. The funny thing is there were still about 10 elite medals left to give out, but when I got my race printout it said I was woman 100. Can't get closer than that! I was so elated! I hurried and got my chip off my shoe and grabbed a drink just in time to see Jason come through the finish, which I never get to see since he is usually faster than me. All in all an awesome day. Congrats to all our friends who ran this race as well.

All I can say is wow, I loved this race!!! This was a very organized and well put together race. It started right on time, the goody bags were great, they even had gloves and a blanket for the colder start, the drop bag even had your name personalized on it which was a nice touch, there were about a zilllion port a potties at the start which made for vitually no wait, the ride up was in a coach bus, not a school bus, the aid stations were perfectly placed and well stocked, the finisher medals were huge and there was a large variety of food to choose from at the finish.

Jason and I met up with Jay and Melissa. We took the bus up and did the waiting game, it was so nice to have friends there to chat with. Like I said before the race started on time and we took off fast. This course is very aided, but no so much that I felt out of control. I need to download my splits from my watch, but our pace was around a 7:05 minute mile for about the first 9 or so miles. I felt myself starting to slow big time around mile 10. I told myself there was only a 5k left and pushed on. As I looked at my watch with a mile to go I realized that I could get in under 1:40, sadly I missed by 21 seconds. I wish the clock at the finish line had been working when I came in, maybe then I could have pushed strong to make it in. I'm completely happy with my time and know there are always more races. I finished with a time of 1:40:20, 7:40 AP.  I was just grateful to have my kiddos there watching me come through the finish line. It was fun to able to meet Tara from the blog as the 1:30 pacer. I got to chat with her for a minute, wish I could have stayed with her group:) A huge congrats to Melissa for taking 3rd place overall and to Jay for an unbelievable PR, I'm so proud of you guys. Jason and I got a massage and have agreed this needs to become an annual race.

Tara, I know I hit the goal time on the nose, maybe next year I'll be closer to your group. I think my 2013 season is over. I really don't have anything else planned till next spring, but I'm not ready to be done. Maybe I can find some random race to run:) Again, so nice to meet you!

Burt, thanks!:)

I was supposed to run 15 miles with my buddies this morning, but have come down with an awful cold. I decided to sleep in and do weights instead. Worked quads, hamstrings, inner and outer thigh, chest, back, shoulders, biceps, triceps, glutes, and abs. After weights I ran, but was only able to muster out a slow 5 miles 8:34 AP. Really low miles this week, hopefully next week will be better:)

Ran 7 slow miles 8:19 AP. I felt no drive at all to run. I know there are days like this, but everthing just felt off. Weights: worked inner and outer thigh, calves, glutes, hamstrings. quads, biceps, triceps, shoulders, back, chest and abs. I isolated a bunch of the muscle groups, I'll feel this in the next few days. I love the feeling of sore muscles.

Weights: quads, hamstrings, inner and outer thigh, glutes, chest, delts, lats, shoulders, biceps, triceps, abs and obliques. This was a huge workout and I was wasted by the end, but it felt so good.
